Day 26 and 27 of 40 Day United States of Autism Movie Shoot

After a well deserved rest, the crew began it’s day in Miami, Florida with the Reyes family. Ileana, a single mom, and Dominic, Daniella, and Izzy welcomed us to their home in the beautiful area of Miami Lakes.

We started at Izzy’s school, where a special class was set up for us to film. There, we also had a visit from Channel 6 News and Channel 4 News (video | story), both who did stories on us and our trip. It is always great to meet the media and get their perspectives on our trip.

From there, we filmed a great interview with Ileana, who as a single mom has many challenges that other parents often have to deal with on their own. Full of laughter, and of course a few tears, we got a clear glimpse into those tragedies and triumphs. Dominic, the eldest son, also put together a great interview on his baseball talents, where he petitioned the state to wear a puzzle piece pin on his baseball uniform for team. Daniella, only a few year older than Izzy, also talked about the challenges of being a sibling.

At the end of the day, we wished the Reyes family goodbye for now, but we are looking forward to coming back to the area shortly. Be sure to check out the pictures, we love you all, and we can’t wait to see you soon. Tomorrow, we drive to Washington, DC, so we look forward to catching up with our friend in the Northeast again soon!
